We have been given fire again.

That’s the only way I know how to describe this moment — the speed, the possibility, the promise, the uncertainty all arriving at once, faster than any map can be drawn. Living in the Bay Area, I feel it every day. The extraordinary creative energy, and underneath it, a quiet collective vertigo. Everyone building. Nobody quite sure what we’re building toward.

I don’t have a roadmap. But I’ve been sitting with some questions I can’t shake: How have humans gotten through moments like this before? What actually helped us hold something this powerful without losing ourselves in it?

This is what keeps coming up for me.

If we’re standing at the edge of a new stage in the evolution of intelligence—whether technological, biological, or some combination of both—then our oldest values matter more than ever.

What if this moment matters not just for the next generation, but for the next chapter in the story of intelligence—and perhaps consciousness itself?

One image in particular keeps calling to me: the nautilus.

It builds its shell one chamber at a time. Each new chamber is larger than the last. But the animal never severs itself from where it began. A thin, living tube — the siphuncle — runs from the newest chamber all the way back to the smallest, earliest one at the center. It actively regulates the older chambers so the creature can navigate different depths without losing its balance.

Our brains — and perhaps our civilization in this moment — work the same way.

The same ancient structures that drive fear, aggression, and the will to dominate are also wired for love, bonding, attachment, and the fierce drive to protect what we care about. Both are primal survival mechanisms. Both have kept us alive for hundreds of thousands of years.

And the answer that keeps rising in me, almost like a prayer, is love.

Not soft, polite love. Not sentimental love.

I’m talking about the ancient, fierce, protective love that has kept the human race alive through every catastrophe we’ve ever faced.

This love isn’t fragile. It lives in the same ancient part of our brain as fear and rage. It is not weaker than survival.

It is survival.

And right now, I’m scared we’re forgetting that.

Because when the pressure is this high and the pace is this brutal, the old survival system defaults to fight. To dominance. To winning at all costs. The quieter, wiser, more protective voice gets drowned out.

That’s why I wrote The Mother Code. Because something deep in me was desperate to call that ancient intelligence back into the room — into the places where decisions are being made, where systems are being designed, where code is being written.

The values encoded at the beginning of any system matter most. The first architecture shapes everything that follows.

We know this as engineers. We know this as parents.

This isn’t just sentiment. It’s biology. And it’s systems thinking.

Pope Leo XIV recently spoke to this same fork in the road, calling for a civilization of love rather than one ruled by power alone.

If we are standing at the threshold of a new chamber in the story of intelligence, then let us not forget the ancient wisdom that taught us how to protect life before we learned how to engineer it.

From my earliest days as a young child, lying on the warm earth in the sunshine, I found myself staring into the vastness of the blue sky and wondering how big “big” really was.

How small “small” could become.

I was captivated by the depths of the ocean, the scale of space, and the simple fact that any of this exists at all.

Rivers reminded me of veins beneath the skin.

Tree branches echoed roots.

I was fascinated by geometry and the way shapes seemed to fold into one another, expand, and repeat.

I couldn’t have articulated it then, but I was drawn to the relationships between things.

Somewhere along the way, a tiny esoteric philosopher hat appeared on my head and never really left.

I’ve always been fascinated by the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we value, and where we’re going.

Sometimes that curiosity leads me into mythology.

Sometimes neuroscience.

Sometimes art, music, technology, motherhood, dreams, or the strange symbols that appear when we’re paying attention.

I don’t believe human beings are meant to be reduced to a single lens.

We are practical and symbolic.

Ancient and modern.

Rational and intuitive.

Individual and collective.

We contain multitudes.

The artist name I create under is Kaleidah.

A kaleidoscope doesn’t create new pieces of glass. It turns them slightly and reveals a new pattern.

Over the years, I’ve found that some of the most meaningful insights arrive this way—not from discovering something entirely new, but from seeing familiar things from a different angle.

The name Corolla comes from the ring of petals surrounding the center of a flower.

Each petal is distinct. Together, they create a larger pattern.

That feels like a fitting metaphor for this space.

Some posts will be deeply personal.

Others will explore culture, creativity, values, consciousness, technology, or the future we’re building together.

Some may begin as songs.

Others as stories, symbols, questions, or observations.

I don’t expect every reflection here to resonate with everyone.

But perhaps changing perspective reveals new relationships.

And perhaps one of those relationships sparks something useful in your own journey—or in our shared effort to help humanity thrive.
